1729 – The Power of Animation in Communication with Sherry Khan

In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the  CEO,  Co-Founder, Business Leader, Entrepreneur & Business Strategist of Anideos, Sherry Khan.

Khan wide

Sherry's story begins in Pakistan, where he grew up before moving to the UK to study business management. Despite his academic pursuits, Sherry's passion has always been art and animation. This passion led him to establish Anideos in 2020, a company that creates visually appealing websites and animations.

Their client list is equally impressive, featuring prestigious names such as Toyota, Colgate, and the US Navy SEALs. Sherry's mission is to contribute to the digital realm of art and leave a timeless piece of art that can be remembered.

Sherry also explained that the cost of animated explainer videos depends on the style and complexity of the animation. Anideos offers a range of styles, including 2D explainer animation, 3D explainer animation, and motion graphics.

The style choice is tailored to the client's product and target audience. For instance, essential 2D explainer videos are suitable for clients like Craft Times, while realistic 3D animation is preferred for clients in the rocket industry.

Sherry emphasized the importance of animation in capturing people's attention and conveying messages effectively. He believes that beautifully crafted artistic pieces, whether it's animation or a visually appealing website, have a greater impact on viewers.

Sherry draws a parallel between children's natural inclination towards drawing nature elements like the sun, trees, and mountains, and how nature plays a significant role in our perception of art.

According to Sherry, the goal of animation is to engage viewers and compel them to take action, whether it's making a purchase, visiting a website, or learning about a product. Animation plays a crucial role in selling products and building brand loyalty.

Sherry, you are the CEO and co-founder of Anideos. I'm going to spell this. It's an I os combination of animation and videos and thus we get an idea. Sherry, it's great to have you.

Sherry (00:01:17) - Thank you so much, Josh. It's been an absolute pleasure.

Sherry (00:01:20) - And I would like to start off with you're doing a great job. Thank you. Now some of your podcasts and it was amazing. Not just mean you're not just helping out businesses, but I think anyone can just watch your podcast. And it doesn't necessarily have to be business oriented because you're really kind of like a relatable guy. Also, it's an absolute pleasure to have me on your show, so thank you so much.

Josh (00:01:46) - Well, Siri, that's very kind of you. Appreciate that. I'm so excited to learn about how your service works. Would you mind maybe just kind of giving this an overview and here's what I would encourage to our listener right now to our friend is listening to us. Click in your podcast player. Click on where it's got the little information icon or the show notes. Just kind of keep clicking around and then pull up the website. What we're talking about, Sherry, is very visual, so it's really important think that someone kind of see what it is that we're talking about.

Josh (00:02:16) - And again, if you just want to type it in manually it's an ios.com. All right, Sherry, I'll let you kind of explain now that our friend has a visual in front of them, what is an idiom?

Sherry (00:02:31) - So let me just give you a little bit of a background of who I am. I was born and raised in Pakistan and for my education I traveled to the UK. Now I did my education in business management, whereas I always wanted to learn animation. And the reason why I wanted to learn animation is it's only because I've always been passionate about arts and mean I'm an artist. Ever since I was a kid, I used to really like see something and draw that out on a piece of paper. So I was just those kids who was really happy with this color pencils and oil paints and all of that. And yep, with that passion of arts, we really started this company in ideas, which is basically we have a parent company. So that's virtual reality creators and is basically a DBA.

Sherry (00:03:20) - So that's where doing business as an idea, the reason why we have this is because we also have another brand which is called mint, which basically focuses on the web development, but with ideas. We're actually taking care of every single thing. But that can be visually appealing and that includes websites and animations both. So a little bit of introduction about any ideas we opened up back in 2020. And so far it's been a great journey. Our company is based in Long Island, New York, but since I'm born and raised in Pakistan, the entire production team is located in Pakistan and that's how I do my business. So the company is registered there. We have an office there. We've only got about six people working there. And over here in Pakistan we have a team of 70 plus people working with us. We started off with 12 people, by the way, and it's been about four years. And I would say I've been very humble of working with clients like Roche Pharmaceutical, Stanford University, Boston University, Colgate-Palmolive, Kraft Times, and we're still working with them and also will also be official US government vendors.

Sherry (00:04:29) - And such companies would really need to have a cage cage cage number. Yeah, we do have and we can provide that to anyone who asks for that for further validation as well. So that's a little bit about the animals now. Yeah. My personal passion or the mission of this company really is about art and how we like to contribute to the digital realm of arts. And maybe the goal of my life is to leave a timeless piece of art that can be remembered or looked upon long after we're gone. Well, that's just a wish. I hope it comes true. So far, we've created amazing animations and amazing designs that are there on our portfolio the YouTube channels, the website. We're still growing, we're still learning. And yeah, that's a little bit about it.

Josh (00:05:23) - Yeah, you absolutely have Toyota, Colgate, Unicef, the US Navy Seals think that's so cool.

Sherry (00:05:32) - Yeah. Department of Defense as well. The really bad part about it is if you're working with the US government, there are projects that you work on, but you're not allowed to share any of that because it's really confidential.

Sherry (00:05:46) - It's so great, but you just cannot show it. And we work with a lot of clients, and especially because it's animation, we have to really take a written consent. From the claims that are we allowed to share this on our social media or website or YouTube anywhere? A lot of the times clients really do tell us no, or especially if it's a music video, for example, that artists would be like, let me publish it first and then you can go ahead and do my marketing.

Josh (00:06:13) - Well, beautiful, you do beautiful work, which is why I really wanted to encourage our listener to to go and actually see this work, so you can see why you are so highly sought after. And again, congratulations on your rapid growth. You know, in just over three and a half years, you've been able to really become incredibly well positioned in the marketplace. Your friend that's listening, can you help us understand? I'm curious about like, budgeting, right. And like what does it cost generally? And feel free to talk about what your other options may have historically been in the marketplace before and videos.

Josh (00:06:50) - And maybe feel free to kind of share what makes any ideas unique. If someone is deciding, you know, we would really love to have an animated explainer video. We've toyed with the idea. We weren't sure about the pricing. Who would make a great client for you, and what does that look like?

Sherry (00:07:07) - So as of now, if we're talking about commercial animation, which means you're trying to make a promotional video and you're trying to sell it to an audience, for example. In that case, there's different styles of animation that we recommend. For example, like you said it, there's 2D explainer animation, then there's 3D explainer animation, and now we have this motion graphics. Motion graphics does an amazing blend of animations, different styles, and it blends it together so it works as an eye candy. So it's really an apple to the eye. So explainer videos, it really depends on the client and the product. For example, for craft times what we're doing is we're really making basic explainer videos because they have many, many processes.

Sherry (00:07:55) - And we're very required to do is we require to explain those processes, because of which we're really going with basic 2D explainer videos. But then we also have this client where they're in the rocket industry and they create rockets and they create rapidly reusable fueled rockets so their rockets can go up into this space and then they can come back for such purposes. Obviously, we do not want to use those choppy 2D animation. We want to work on a realistic 3D animation where if you're looking at it, you should not be able to tell if that's real or if that's fake. Obviously, if you see a rocket out in the space, you're not expecting a camera to go up in this space. But it's all animation. But it has to look really, really, really realistic. So from really choppy animations all the way up to realistic animations is what we really specialize in and think it's important for the viewers to understand how important the lighting really works. Disney and Pixar I'm a huge fan. I love animated movies.

Sherry (00:09:03) - They came up with such a fantastic idea for these 3D animated movies that you see, we're talking Kung Fu Panda and Toy Story, all of these big famous movies. What they did is they did something so brilliant with this, which I absolutely adore. And that is you create a cartoon, you model that in 3D and it looks really cartoony, but the lighting on that cartoon, it's going to be so realistic that you could literally see every single strand of their hair, which I don't, by the way, but thing. Right? So yeah, I'm really looking forward to create a timeless piece of art and these, these things, they fascinate me so much. I would like to evolve in the digital realm of animation and play a really important role.

Josh (00:09:55) - No Sherry. Like if someone wants to have an explainer video done. I'll just ask this, you know, to someone's like, can I afford this? Would you say, well, no. We primarily work with enterprise. Or do you also do work for SMBs?

Sherry (00:10:11) - 50 to 60 or perhaps more than 60% of our clients are usually SMEs.

Sherry (00:10:17) - I am really vocal about the fact that, yes, we based in New York, Long Island, and I can show you my registration, all of that. But the entire production team is in Pakistan, because of which I have a very, very good competitive advantage when it comes to pricing. So the price I can offer is really competitive. That was the entire reason for my entire production team to be in Pakistan. I was born and raised in Pakistan. I know the artists there. I'm really blessed to be working with a team that shares my vision. And on top of that, the pricing was one of the main factors where I deliberately wanted my production studio to be in Pakistan because my costs are going to be low, which means the price that I can offer, it's going to be very competitive. And it is.

Josh (00:11:08) - Yeah. Talk about why animated videos are so valuable for today's viewers. So let's say that someone's listening to us. They own a, you know, maybe a boutique agency.

Josh (00:11:21) - And why might they want to make an investment into video and or animated video?

Sherry (00:11:28) - Well, that's a very good question. And a lot of people don't know due to any of the experiences, really hesitant on spending their budget towards animation, but it's a message for all of them. Everybody likes beautifully crafted artistic pieces. Everyone. So if you see something that you really like, you're more likely to go towards it. Now. It can be an animation, it could be a beautiful website. When someone comes on your website, they're so awestruck by the designs of the website and the user journey, because what these designs do is, or what these colors do is they blend in with your imagination. And everybody has certain imaginations. Like, for example, I'm going to drag this a little bit if you don't. Don't mind. Now, do you have kids, Josh?

Josh (00:12:23) - I got three of them.

Sherry (00:12:25) - All right. I have a kid as well. I'm a I mean, I recently became a father, and if you notice, the kids, whenever they really want to go towards the route of drawing or arts, the first thing that they draw is either a sun or a tree or mountains.

Sherry (00:12:44) - So we have to really understand that nature plays a very important role in how we perceive art. For example, the Northern lights, everybody wants to go to Norway to see those northern lights. It's just a green sky, literally. But it just sounds so amazing that you'd want to go there. And especially artists. I personally know a lot of artists who would like to spend so much time in the middle of the mountains and all of that. So the idea is, whatever we're trying to do, we're trying to make it as much natural as possible. And nature is my personal inspiration. I have taken so much inspiration from the nature, because of which I think creating those engaging animations and making sure that there's a flow has an actual flow. So from point A to point Z, we're trying to deliver a message and we're trying to engage the viewers. And after watching the video, we want them to feel compelled to really make an action, maybe call this number, go to this website, purchase this product, or enlighten your viewer about your amazing product.

Sherry (00:13:57) - So I'm the role of animation is really important whether you're trying to sell anything or whether you're trying to make sure that you are just creating your brand loyalty. But yeah, it's very important.

Josh (00:14:10) - Yeah. All right. So Sherry, your website that we shared earlier is an ideas and videos.com. Listen go look at the gallery. Go go look at examples. So you could see exactly what this work looks like. But aside from that what would you recommend someone who's been listening to our conversation if they kind of want to take that next step and maybe have a conversation, what would you recommend they do?

Sherry (00:14:36) - So you said it, right. And that's our website. You can also type in our name on YouTube. We have a YouTube channel, and you're going to see all the animations that we've created. And our clients have approved them to be shown on public. Other than that, we also have a Google Drive. So. What they can do is they can go ahead and they can reach out to anyone that's available on the website, or call our toll free number, or send us an email.

Sherry (00:15:02) - And we'd be more than happy to not only provide you with the right consultancy, but also go ahead and create something so magical for you that not only are you going to be happy with, but would definitely generate more traffic towards you as well. And I know that we're really talking about commercial animations, but I really want to focus on the fact that we also work on movies. So we're currently working on animated movies. I wouldn't say the name of the client because he specifically does not want to be famous, but he's making a movie on his life that he says, Sherry, I want to work with you. I want to create this movie, and then I want to leave this movie for my grandchildren to watch what kind of a grandfather I really was and how much music impacts life. So he basically came up with this theory that people who have ADHD, for example, music, can really help them learn. And he did it with his own son, after which he did it in his own grandson's school.

Sherry (00:16:08) - And now he's like, I'm really on a mission to spread this message because some of the people won't really let me do it, but I just want to create a movie, let the world know that music plays a very important role. So we're working on movies as well. Now we're working on 2D movies. When I say 2D, I don't just mean the explainer animation, the choppy animation that we see that's the most disliked style of animation as an artist. Obviously, I don't mind working on them. If it's a commercial project, I always recommend explainer animation, but there's also 2D animation. Tom and Jerry, for example. Everybody's seen it if you go for the anime. So that's the traditional style of animation. Yeah, more like the flipbook style. You know, you used to flip those pages and you'd see the animation in front of you. That's called frame by frame animation, and that has a certain number of hand-drawn frames per second. So we're really looking at 24 drawings in one second.

Sherry (00:17:14) - I mean, you multiply that by 60s and you'll get a huge number of drawings, and that's the amount of work that it takes to the animation. Then we have 3D, which is cartoony or realistic. There's really like a lot of options. And even within these options you have so many variations, so many different styles, like it's been three and a half years with this company, and even before this I did one course in animation, so I know animation, I learned animation, I did it myself. Now when I get time, I do it. But now I'm mainly taking care of the quality assurance no matter what project or what clients we have, we really want to put in a lot of quality in that and be like, we're really proud of that work. You know? We want to have that feeling.

Josh (00:18:06) - Jerry Khan, thank you so much for joining us again. You're the CEO and co-founder of the website and videos and videos. Sherry, thank you so much for joining us.

Sherry (00:18:18) - Thank you so much.

Sherry (00:18:19) - It's been an absolute pleasure. Josh.
