THE THOUGHTFUL ENTREPRENEUR PODCAST

1765 – The Power of Authenticity and Quick Action with Whitney Alexandra

In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with Performance Coach, Whitney Alexandra.

Alexandra wide

Whitney's clientele consists of successful women who have already achieved a multi-six figure level in their businesses. However, they often find themselves at a plateau, whether a sales or revenue plateau or a passion plateau, where they feel disconnected from their business. This is where Whitney steps in, helping them get clear on their next success level and find the easiest path to achieve it.

Whitney suggests an exercise to help listeners get started on the path to clarity. She advises thinking about their considerable revenue or business goal and multiplying it by ten. This brainstorming activity opens up creative options and can be a game-changer.

Whitney emphasizes that her approach is not about working harder but about doing less more smartly. She helps her clients delegate and streamline their operations for maximum efficiency.

Whitney Alexandra is no stranger to recognition. She has received accolades from a consulting firm for her exceptional sales performance. However, she acknowledges that, like everyone else, she is not immune to making mistakes and getting in her own way.

In the age of social media, she discusses the concept of authenticity and how she is working on creating more candid content to share important stories and insights.

Whitney emphasizes the need to take action quickly and not wait for the perfect moment or appearance. She encourages her clients to remove the pressure of perfection and focus on what is fast and easy.

She shares a success story of a client who had been delaying sending an email to their list but ended up making $100,000 in sales that week after embracing the idea of speed and imperfection.

Alexandra Whitney, you are a performance coach, and you're found on the web at Whitney. Alexandra Coe. Whitney, thank you so much for joining us.

Whitney (00:01:10) - Thank you for having me. I'm so excited to be here.

Josh (00:01:13) - Well, it's great to have you. Give us an overview of the work that you do.

Whitney (00:01:17) - So I'm a performance coach. I work mainly with women leaders and entrepreneurs. And so my whole thing is helping them scale their business in an easy way that's really aligned with the things that they desire most out of life. So I like to think we do a lot of really big things, but in an easy way.

Josh (00:01:37) - Yeah. Tell me more about that. Like, what does that look like? And where do you find that your clients typically start from.

Whitney (00:01:44) - So typically they're starting if they're on the woman on the entrepreneurial spectrum. Um, typically they're starting at uh multi six figures. So let's call it, you know, 200,000 per year and uh, scaling up anywhere into $1,000,000 billion territory. So.

Josh (00:02:02) - In terms of like what they may be complaining about or what they may be experiencing, where are those gaps? And then, you know, just kind of tactically, what are you doing with them to help overcome those challenges? Yeah.

Whitney (00:02:15) - Fabulous question. Um, and so typically they're coming to me because they have reached a plateau in their business.

Whitney (00:02:22) - Sometimes it's a sales plateau or a revenue plateau. Other times it's what I call a passion plateau, where they're just sort of operating their business, but it's not really lighting them up anymore. And so typically I will see them at a stage in their business where they're in it for about five years, maybe scaling up to ten and thinking, okay, something is missing here. I should be a whole lot further ahead. Or why is this just not sort of connecting for me? And so a lot of the work that we do together is really getting clear on what that next level of success is going to look like and what's the easiest path to make it happen.

Josh (00:03:01) - Why do we not have that clarity?

Whitney (00:03:03) - I believe many times we get stuck in the day to day operations, and it's asking a new question that gives us that new insight. So, for example, if I ask, you know, typical business owner, what's your goal for next year? They typically will come back with something that's pretty conservative.

Whitney (00:03:22) - You know, it's 5% more than last year, or maybe it's 100,000 more than last year. And we're sort of looking back towards what our future goal or success should be. Um, and typically where I'm working with them, we're saying, okay, what would we need to do if we wanted to ten extra business. And it's not that we're going to actually ten x their business, but it's really getting that creativity breaking out of the mold of what are they used to doing and dreaming a whole lot bigger.

Josh (00:03:54) - Yeah. Because I think, again, I think you're right, right, that a lot of us just spend most of our time, unfortunately, in the operations, putting out fires. And there's not a lot of growth happening when you're constantly putting out fires. Well, how do you help your clients kind of break out of being called into that? Is it about, well, we have to stop these fires from happening or you just need to delegate? Or like if they feel stuck that they're not able to break out of what their responsibilities are.

Whitney (00:04:27) - You know, it's usually a combination of a handful of things, right? How we do one thing is probably how we're going to do everything, but in different ways in life. Um, and so I really love to start them from this place of what do you desire, you know, coming back to the heart of things. And I use desire as a word that's like really intentional because it's not the, you know, what do you want that feels different. It's got a different energy to it. When we can say like, okay, Josh, what would it take for you to have the best year of your life? Let's get down to like, the projects or the people, or the parts of your business that really lights you up. And so I like to think of myself. It's a bit of a professional fire starter, but in the very best of ways, right? Lighting some of that passion for what you're doing or reigniting something that you used to have and bringing that forward into just a world of possibilities.

Whitney (00:05:21) - So I always find if we can start from a place of, you know, what is it that you desire? And really linking into that, getting your mind excited about that. That's one of the tools I love to use with clients. We'll use Hypnotic Recordings as part of the transformation, and it's based on the science that you hear it, you believe it, you internalize it, and then you take action in a different way. So it's all sort of aligning them towards a business in life that really lights them up.

Josh (00:05:53) - Now. And if we were to, let's say to our friend that's been listening to our conversation right now, and we were to give them something that they could do today that may get their brain kind of going in the right direction or give them clarity on some things. Is there an exercise or something that you'd recommend that they do?

Whitney (00:06:10) - Yeah, yeah. So I, I just briefly shared one, but we can make it sort of adjustable to all audiences. So typically I'll say, you know, let's think of that big goal.

Whitney (00:06:21) - Think of your big revenue goal or business goal and let's ten exit. And if you've already got, you know, quite a substantial sized company, maybe it's looking and saying, okay, how do I double it next year? And the creative options that are going to come out of that brainstorming activity, the creative options that will come out of just opening your mind to new possibilities will be incredible. That in itself is a game changer.

Josh (00:06:49) - And then, you know, once they start thinking about like you're putting a position where you have to make this happen. All right, great. What are your best ideas? And then they might look at that and say, well, that looks like a lot of work. I don't know how I'm getting. Yes. How do we start to, you know, eat the elephant now?

Whitney (00:07:06) - Yeah. And that's exactly it. Because, you know, my whole way of thinking and working with people is I don't want you to work harder. So the second part of this exercise, I'm usually taking away parts of your time.

Whitney (00:07:18) - I'm saying, okay, I do this thing on Fridays, I call Fabulous Fridays. And so it's really a day that you can step into your future self, live as that future CEO, future leader, and align your activities with that person. And so I will start to help them chip away parts of their time so that it doesn't become one of those scenarios where you think, okay, I have to double the amount of work that I'm doing in order to double my revenue, right? That's the rabbit hole that we all go down at some point, at some point. And so this is not an exercise in doing more to receive more. This is about doing less and doing it in a smarter way that really just, you know, gives more back to your clients typically, and also is filling up the bank account in a different way.

Josh (00:08:07) - Yeah. And Whitney, talk about how did your operations work. Who do you work with. Like what does that look like on a regular basis. So someone says, well, listen, this has all been great, Whitney, how do I hire you or how do you work together?

Whitney (00:08:20) - Yeah.

Whitney (00:08:20) - So I love to do a lot of one on one work. So I will typically be working one on one with sort of the million dollar, billion dollar CEO or a leader. I will also be working in a mastermind group that I have. So we have a fabulous group of women entrepreneurs, and there's so much opportunity for sharing and up leveling together. And so that has been such an awesome way to support a larger group of people. But it all kind of starts for me with a breakthrough strategy call where we talk about, you know, what is it that you want and bust through a few limiting beliefs or figure out some next steps on an action action call.

Josh (00:09:01) - Yeah. Whitney, your website is Whitney Alexander, CEO. Um, to folks that are listening to us and they say, well, I'd be interested, I'd like more. I don't know that I'm ready for a conversation, but I'd love to dig into your content or your thought leadership. What have you been producing?

Whitney (00:09:20) - Yeah. So I have a couple of really awesome hypnotic recordings that people can take a listen to.

Whitney (00:09:26) - So one is around $1 million mindset. So that's just something you can plug in at night and listen to or during the day. You just can't listen while you're driving. Very important. Um, but that's one thing that's really going to help rewire your mind for success. So it will give you some fabulous prompts in there. And that. And then I also have another, uh, hypnotic recording also on there that's called Limitless Wealth. And so it's the same sort of premise of everything is available to you and being in that possibility energy.

Josh (00:10:00) - Yeah. Um, Whitney, share a bit about your background, what brought you into this work and then like how you grow and scale your company today?

Whitney (00:10:08) - Um, so I spent ten years working with hundreds of business leaders, um, in a corporate role. And then ten years later, I had started my business and realized, gee, I didn't set one goal for myself. I just sort of set like an income target. But I had no idea really, how to gauge success at that point, being a new entrepreneur, never having done it before.

Whitney (00:10:34) - And so I got a call from one of the big consulting firms I was doing some work with, and they said, you know, you've done more than double of the sales of any of our other consultants. And I thought, oh, gee, right, I probably should have set a goal. I probably should have had these milestones and that. And so it's just been. Sort of exploring more of those limiting beliefs and also helping other people see that we can collapse a lot of the time, and we can also achieve faster results for them by setting goals and really being mindful about what performance strategies are going to work for them.

Josh (00:11:12) - In your operations today, I would imagine you have a very I'll just say you're very polished persona and your branding is absolutely very polished as well. Um, but I'm sure, Whitney, that you like me like everyone else. We make mistakes. We are fallible. We probably sometimes get in our own way. What are some things that that you've overcome recently? Or maybe things that I think more interestingly, like, what are you working on right now?

Whitney (00:11:39) - Yeah.

Whitney (00:11:40) - Um, and you know, it's funny because we always have something there's always a limiting belief. There's always something that's holding us back from our next level of success. I love to come with like, a polished look and outfit and face and things like that. And I think in this world of being real on social media, there's something really nice about showing up and not having to look 100% or being in a, you know, going live and talking about your business or your offers. And so that's one thing where I'm just trying to create more of that candid content, where it's real time creation. I'm not worried about, you know, putting my eyelashes on and lipstick and all of that kind of stuff, but really showing up in an authentic way because I have something important to share or a story that I want to share about a client's success. So I think it's, you know, taking more action quickly, not postponing until we feel good or look right, or it's the perfect time, or I have an hour to shoot this video in this well-lit office or something like that, but just that sort of like real authenticity that we can bring to every day.

Whitney (00:12:49) - So I was encouraged clients to think about, you know, what is the, like, fast and easy version of this. It's not perfect. If we just remove perfection from the equation, what would you do? And wouldn't you know it? Like I've had some clients who have sat on emails. This is a true story. Josh sat on an email for weeks before sending it to their list. And you know, we had this conversation around what does fast look like. Remove perfection. They sent an email and sold $100,000 that week. It's like, come on, come on. Like, let's get into motion fast because no one is looking at your imperfections. Let's just go.

Josh (00:13:37) - Now and, you know, and there's something that is so humanizing. Like I connect with people that are just like me and, you know, we can share one another's insecurities. You know, I, I'm insecure. I probably worry way too much about what people think about me or what I perceive they think about me, which in fact, spotlight fallacy, right? They're probably not really even thinking about me at all.

Whitney (00:14:00) - Yeah, exactly. Exactly.

Josh (00:14:03) - Well, Whitney, um, again, your website, Whitney. alexandra.co. Are you working with individuals? I know you talked about working with obviously entrepreneurs, but what other work are you doing here?

Whitney (00:14:27) - Yep. So I work with individuals. I love working with women entrepreneurs, but I also have a ton of background and experience to share with, you know, C-suite executives and C-suite leaders. So, you know, it's sort of all ranges. We call it different things, but we are all working on the same stuff. So.

Josh (00:14:49) - Yeah. And Wendy, one last time for someone, you know, going from here now and they want to connect with you, what do they do?
